About the Organization and Opportunity
Organization: Rhode Island Marine Trade Association (RIMTA) where we are dedicated to the growth and sustainability of the marine trades industry in Rhode Island. RIMTA’s mission is to champion the Rhode Island Marine Industry through advocacy, education, environmental stewardship, innovation and promotion.
Opportunity: RIMTA will be offering a variety of programs that incorporate career exploration, work experiences, leadership development, adult mentoring, and basic skills development with a job-readiness perspective. By participating in the program, students will increase marine trades-specific knowledge on boat design, blueprint reading, boatbuilding, carpentry, tool-handling/use, and 21st Century workplace skills (critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, communication, planning and goal setting) that are transferable to other fields. This program will increase youth awareness of local employment opportunities by exposing them to multiple career pathways within the marine trades industry and providing insight on the skills that employers are seeking in their workforce. Students will engage with industry guest speakers, go on tours, and participate in classroom/shop-based activities and assessments. Students will also participate in institutional tours and receive information on post-secondary schools that they can attend to learn additional skills that attract employers.
Stipend/Incentive/Wages Earned: $1,200 based on $12/hour stipend for up to 100 hours.
