How Do Experiential Learning Opportunities Benefit Students?

Experiential learning is an essential component of a student’s career pathway. It builds on their classroom knowledge with practical experience in the workplace and interactions with industry and community professionals. Experiential learning also allows students to apply and develop their academic, technical, and essential skills. This shows students the relevance of their education by connecting it to the real world and preparing them for success in college or their career.

How will the Rhode Island Experiential Learning Navigator Benefit Educators and Schools?

The Rhode Island Experiential Learning Navigator will serve as a concierge service for both education partners and employers. Educators will be able to learn about the value of experiential learning programs for their students, see current employer partners, and request partnerships with existing programs or new partners. All experiential learning opportunities hosted on the Navigator will be vetted by Junior Achievement of Rhode Island (JA) staff, who will support making appropriate connections between educators and employer partners. Additionally, JA staff will meet with educators, counselors, and administrators to understand their needs for experiential learning and work to find existing or new employer partners that meet those educational needs.

"Hands-on experience and interviewing professionals help our students engage in real conversations and experience real world solutions to problems. Speaking to others in careers that spark a student's interest not only gives them a point of view from another perspective, but also gives them options and provides points of view with regards to education needed, "a day in the life of" and other inquisitive aspects.

The RIEXL.org platform can and will enhance our program by providing more opportunities and connecting to more professionals for our student community."
